چکیده
Background: Even though specific agents for the treatment of patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) are available, in PH patients, physical capacity and quality of life (QoL) are often restricted and survival is reduced. Objectives: This study prospectively investigated the long-term effects of respiratory and exercise training in patients with severe chronic PH regarding safety, time to clinical worsening and survival. Methods: Fifty-eight consecutive patients with severe PH on stable disease-targeted medication received exercise and respiratory training in hospital for 3 weeks and continued at home. They were prospectively followed for 24 8 12 months. Primary endpoints were time to clinical worsening and survival. Adverse events and changes in the 6-min walking test, QoL, WHO functional class and gas exchange were secondary endpoints and were evaluated at baseline and at weeks 3 and 15. Results: All patients tolerated the exercise Received: March 25, 2010 Accepted after revision: November 2, 2010 Published online: February 9, 2011 Ekkehard Grünig, MD Center for Pulmonary Hypertension, Thoracic Clinic , University Hospital Heidelberg Amalienstrasse 5, DE–69126 Heidelberg Tel. +49 6221 396 8053, Fax +49 6221 396 1209 E-Mail ekkehard.gruenig @ thoraxklinik-heidelberg.de © 2011 S. Effect of Diaphragmatic Respiratory Training on Some Pulmonary Indexes in Older People With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Objectives Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is one of the most important progressive pulmonary disorders. Diaphragmatic dysfunction is an essential factor in the worsening and progression of symptoms in patients with COPD. Therefore, we investigated the effect of diaphragmatic respiratory training on some pulmonary indexes in these patients. Methods & Materials This quasi-experimen...
متن کاملComparing the Effect of Resistive Inspiratory Muscle Training and Incentive Spirometry on Respiratory Pattern of COPD patients
Background: Resistive Inspiratory Muscle Training (RIMT) is a well-known technique for rehabilitation of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Incentive spirometry is another technique with potential viability for this application, but there is limited evidence in support of its efficacy in the rehabilitation of COPD patients. Aim: The objective of this study was to compar...
متن کاملStatins and Pulmonary Hypertension in Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease
Chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) is a chronic multisystem disease with a considerable burden. One of its most common complications is pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH). It has been demonstrated that the development of PAH is correlated with decreased quality of life and survival. Different medications have been proposed for the treatment of PAH, among which one can name statins. Howeve...
متن کاملThe effects of Pilates and diaphragm exercises on some pulmonary factors in chronic obstructive pulmonary Patients
Introduction and purpose: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most important pulmonary diseases. The most important way to minimize the progress of the disease is to rehabilitate the lung. Rehabilitation of the lung improves respiratory pattern. To this end, the effects of two types of Pilates and Diaphragm exercises on some of the pulmonary factors in these patients were...
